Dental Implants

Dental implants are the best restorative solution to replace a missing tooth or teeth. An implant consists of three unique parts:

  • An implant, which is a titanium screw that’s secured to the jawbone underneath the gum line. The screw is like an anchor and acts similarly to a tooth root. The implant is placed surgically and shouldn’t be visible in the mouth.
  • An abutment is a small piece that connects the implant and crown. The dentist uses the abutment to secure a dental crown, bridge, or fixed denture to your implant(s).
  • A Crown/Bridge/Denture is a specially fabricated artificial tooth or teeth made with either resin composite or porcelain. It attaches to the abutment(s) and appears as a natural-looking tooth or set of teeth.

Implants cannot be removed or become loose, making this restoration feel and function like a natural tooth. Since implants are surgically placed into the jaw, a local anesthetic is needed, and anesthesia may be necessary for this procedure.

What Material Is Used to Make Dental Implants?

Titanium is the most common material used to make dental implants. This material is biocompatible, which is vital since the implant is embedded into the jawbone. Furthermore, all of the implant parts are very durable and resistant to corrosion and fracturing.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are commonly used for cosmetic purposes. They are thin shells that only cover the front portion of a tooth while leaving the back surface exposed. Veneers are used to help patients with:

  • Discoloration
  • Chipped Teeth
  • Gapped front teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Other cosmetic problems

Veneers provide an excellent cosmetic solution for someone who is only in need of repairing their front teeth. The procedure doesn’t require anesthesia and can be completed quickly in our Kingston, PA office.

What Material Is Used to Make Veneers?

The materials used to make veneers consist of resin composite or porcelain. Both are safe and durable options! However, porcelain veneers are more stain-resistant than resin composite.

Dentures

If you’re looking for a dental prosthesis, custom-made dentures may be the answer. These teeth replacements can either be made to replace all teeth on the upper or lower jaw or a few teeth, otherwise called a partial denture. Although removable, dentures are custom-made for every patient to fit perfectly and look like natural teeth and gums. Anesthesia isn’t necessary to have a denture made.

What Material Is Used to Make Dentures?

There are several materials used to fabricate a set of dentures or partial dentures. Dentures have been made with acrylic resin (plastic) and porcelain, but are usually fabricated out of a hard resin material.
